Follow the coastal trail from the Skomer island bird reserve to the great cathedral of St David’s

A self-guided walking tour.

2023 dates: May to end September, start any day.  Nights 2 and 3 of the tour are spent at Marloes as this is the nearest accommodation to Skomer Island bird reserve.  However those planning to visit Skomer on Day 3 should bear in mind that the island is closed to visitors every Monday, and that the ferry to Skomer will not operate on days of high wind or large waves.  From 2022 it is necessary to book in advance for a visit to the island.  In high summer (in previous years late May to late September) there is a public minibus service six days per week (not Sundays) along the coast serving St David’s, Solva, Broad Haven, Little Haven, Marloes and the Skomer ferry point at Martin’s Haven. Using this bus it is possible to visit Skomer on other days of the tour. At the time of writing we do not have advance details of this bus service except that until late May 2023 it will run on Wednesdays only.

Accommodation in this area tends to be booked up well in advance at Bank Holiday weekends (Easter, late May/early June) and during the summer holiday period (late July and August).

Duration: 7 nights
Grade: Easy to moderate hiking. Some steep gradients. Routefinding straightforward. For explanation of grades see Grading and difficulty page.
